First Worshipful Master


RWBro Robert Scott 

RWBro Robert Scott was born in Cumberland County, England, 1846. He came to Canada.

In 1885 he joined the Imperial Oil Company at Petrolia, Ontario, working with them for a period of twenty years, Bro Scott came West in 1905, settling in Carstairs, Alberta .            

 

His Masonic history is as follows:

He became a member of Petrolia Lodge No.194, Petrolia, Ontario in 1880.

Initiated 20th May 1880 Passed 11th August 1880

Raised 17th November 1880-Certificate No. 26915 issued 7th April 1881

He was Worshipful Master of Petrolia Lodge No. 194 in 1884

He was appointed Grand Steward July 1893. Elected DDGM July 1895.

RWBro. Robert Scott, WBro. A.R.Shantz and WBro. Dr. W.C.Laidlaw met in late 1905 in Dr. Laidlaw's office at Carstairs and discussed the idea of forming a Masonic lodge in Carstairs. They were successful.

RWBro Scott was the Charter Worshipful Master

1356 Sgt Robert Scott joined the Red River Expeditionary Force 1869-1870 at Kingston Ontario (1 Battalion, 5 Company) (See Google “The Canadian Military Heritage Project”) He was awarded the “North West Canada Medal”

From “The Journal” dated 10th May 1907:-Members of the Masonic Lodge of Carstairs showed their good fellowship toward their Worshipful Master, Robert Scott by giving an “At Home” last evening at their hall before his departure for England. The members were accompanied by their ladies. 

From “The Journal” dated 18th October 1907:- Robert Scott returned from his extended trip to England. 

From “The Journal” dated 01 January 1920:- Masonic Installation; the Carstairs Lodge, A.F. & A.M., held an installation of officers for the coming year on Monday evening. RWBro Robert Scott, DDGM, officiated as Installing Master. Following the regular routine of business, WBro Alfred S Gough was called to the East, where RWBro Scott presented him on behalf of the brethren with his Past Master’s apron, and delivered an able address as a token of the esteem in which he is held by the brethren. 

From “The Journal” dated Thursday 05 February 1920:- It was with universal regret that Carstairs heard on Monday, 02 February, of the death of Mr. Robert Scott in the early hours of that morning. The deceased had been in poor health for some time and was under the care of Dr C.W. Henders. The immediate cause of his death was carcinoma, and the end came rather suddenly. Mr. Robert Scott was born in Cumberland County, England 74 years ago. Before coming west he was manager for Imperial Oil Co., at Petrolia Ontario for twenty years. Mr. Scott was very widely known and respected. 

On 07th September 1906 a communication from the Grand Lodge of Alberta was read, appointing RWBro Robert Scott as the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia near the Grand Lodge of Alberta. He now has the distinction of being the first Grand representative of Carstairs Lodge No 20.

Passed to the Grand Lodge above Monday 02 February 1920.
