prominent in the work of the lodge; "The Essences and contemporary
Associations" by WBro. Sutherland "Book of the Law" by WBro. Munro:
"History of Masonry" by WBro. Parker, of Perfection Lodge No. 9,

1937:- The
Lodge has held regular meetings and the attendance has been good in
spite of low membership. These have been lean years for the lodge. Very
few candidates have made application, but the faithful attendance and
co-operation of the older members enable the lodge to carry on.
Informal discussions on Masonic subjects keep the ideals before us.
This year marks the Coronation of His Majesty King George VI and
Patriotic programs were held in cities towns and villages. Children were
especially entertained and presented with medals. On the other side of
the picture was the drought in Saskatchewan and, under the leadership of
the Grand Master of Alberta, lodges sent carloads of food and clothing
to the needy. This was well organized and the response was wonderful.
WBro.
A.S.Gough was this year rewarded for long and faithful service by being
elected D.D.G.M. of District No.4.
27th

of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. At this ceremony, Bro. George, Duke of
York, was installed as Grand Master Mason of Scotland. The Grand Master
gave an address on his visit and shared many lantern slides of the
places he visited.
1938:-The
world in general is in an extremely dangerous state, seething with
discontent and the lust of dictators for power. In several European
countries, Masonry has been prohibited and all it stands for has been
discarded. The sacred rights of home and religion are abolished and even
the prerogatives of the Deity have been assumed by ruthless and
ambitious dictators. The Golden Rule has been replaced by the Mailed
Fist. It seems that, in spite of the expressed desire of the democratic
nations for a peaceful settlement of differences, war on an
unprecedented scale will take place with the whole of Europe involved.

There were
seventeen (17) Members present and Twenty-Six (26) visitors representing
three (3) Lodges, with seventeen (17) visitors from King Hiram Lodge No
21.
The year
1939 will long be remembered for the historic visit of the King and
Queen to Canada. The trip across Canada was a succession of patriotic
demonstrations at all points and their kindly and sterling qualities of
character made a wonderful and lasting impression on the people of
Canada.
In spite
of our efforts to avert it, war was forced upon us and the ready
response from all parts of the Empire in the fight for freedom has shown
the world Britain means to maintain freedom of the home and the
individual. To us here on this side of the ocean it is hard to realize
the tremendous forces that will be let loose and the effort that will be
necessary if we are to hold those things for which we must fight.
On
Christmas Day our beloved King spoke to his people and to us who are
Masons his message of hope must have touched our hearts. His final
quotation was:- I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year, ”Give
me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown”, and he replied,
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That
shall be to you better than a light and safer than the known way."
That the
British nation will survive this testing time and that, guided by the
principles on which Masonry is founded, she will emerge even greater in
the history of the world as the protector of right, truth and justice,
is the earnest prayer of every true Mason. With unshaken confidence in
the righteousness of our cause and the quality of our people we are sure
of final victory though the cost will be tremendous, and that the
principles of brotherhood will again be spread over the world.
