Apr.1910:- A joint meeting of members of Carstairs and King Hiram
Lodges was held at Carstairs. The G.M. Bro. J. T. Macdonald gave an
instructive address on the privileges and duties of Masonry. Several
visitors from Calgary were present. This meeting was the result of a
motion by VWBro. Laidlaw regarding a program of Masonic visitation. From
a perusal of the minutes, the lodge appears to have been very active,
but the records show that the lodge used its prerogative to
discriminate. On the 15th May 1910, a Lodge of Sorrow was held for our
late Bro. and Sovereign King Edward VII.
27th

likes to read in the minutes about the offer to King Hiram Lodge No 21
for assistance of work and regalia, and a grant to Acme Lodge No 60 of
$25.00. Another $25.00 was given to Canada Lodge No 165 Hospital Fund
and $23.00 to the Hillcrest Mine Victims. This shows that the lodge
early understood the great distinguishing characteristic of a
Freemason’s heart.

4th August
1914:- War is declared. Records of the Lodge are very scanty. There are
references to the Patriotic Fund and Great War Fund and older masons
inform me that the brethren were gracious in their donations. No Roll of
Honor shows in the minutes but WBro. W. A. Shields, WBro. Price and Bro.
W.A.Stewart enlisted for active service. Bro. W.A.Stewart was killed in
action in 1918. The lodge seemed to have a hard time during the war but

Journal” dated 01 January 1920)
4th
February 1920:- The lodge deeply felt the loss of RWBro. Robert Scott,
one of the Charter members of this lodge and a faithful member of the
craft. He had a wonderful knowledge of the work and the kindly and
earnest manner in which he performed his tasks both inside and outside
of the lodge earned for him the high respect of the community. He passed
to the Grand Lodge above Monday, 02 February 1920.
25 Nov.

1921:-The officers were installed by the Grand Secretary MWBro.
S.Y.Taylor and many members from Ashlar Lodge No 28, Calgary were
present. Ashlar Lodge No 28 again visited in September. It is
gratifying to notice the record of a collection of clothing for drought
sufferers in the South and a donation to the Christmas Cheer Fund.
8 January
1922:- Here we have a record of a Question Box Period during which any
questions regarding the work or history of Masonry were asked and
answered. Carstairs Lodge had long been active in Masonic education and
lectures and discussions in Masonic Subjects were held when feasible.
King Hiram Lodge No. 21, Didsbury, were regular visitors to Carstairs,
and much profit was derived from this close association. The lodge
membership showed a gradual increase. Among the lodges visiting were
Zetland Lodge No 83and King George Lodge No 59, both of Calgary.

help. The Building Committee reported that they had the sum of $3000.00

The hall was built but with alterations and furnishings cost
considerably more.

the annual District No 4 meeting (held downstairs). The dedication
ceremony was conducted by MWBro Rev. Canon S.H. Middleton, Grand Master.
Many distinguished brethren were present. After the Dedication and
District meeting, the brethren were treated to an excellent banquet
prepared and served by members of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No
62. We look forward to many future happy evenings such as this with the
brethren and visiting brethren from District No 4 and the extended area.

1930:-During this time period, prospects were very bright. Membership
was 57, the highest recorded. The main hall was very active and
producing good income and the committee in charge was looking forward to
the day when the indebtedness would be cleared. Here we would pay
tribute to those brethren who gave so much of their time to its
management. Particular mention must be made of the services rendered by
WBro. Lloyd Aldrich and WBro. Alexander Gough who spent many late hours
looking after the management and the cloakroom. Among other things
recorded was assistance to the Wood's Home. Visitation was also frequent
from King Hiram Lodge No 21, Crescent Lodge No 87 and St. Mark's Lodge
No 118. Addresses were given by RWBro. Hartman, Mountain View Lodge
No.16, Olds. Great benefits have been derived from return visits

1931.
One memorable evening was the visit of the Grand Master, MWBro. Dr. G.W.
Kirby, who gave an address on the "Ideals of Masonry", which was a treat
long remembered. The Master, WBro. Ray Wood was one of Dr. Kirby's first
pupils at Mount Royal College. Question period on this occasion brought
forward some very interesting material and the lodge was highly
commended by the Grand Master. This was a very special night, as
Twenty-Five (25) members were present, and Forty-Four (44) visitors
representing Seven (7) Lodges of which Twenty-Six (26) were from King
Hiram No. 21.
The
depression was having its effect on the membership and we regret to
record loss of members by suspension for U.P.D.
